Biography

Associate Professor Lewis MacKinnon is a GP and medical educator based in Perth, Western Australia. He is the Director of General Practice and Clinical Adjuncts at Curtin Medical School, Senior ME with RACGP training and a practising GP at Skye Medical Armadale and Canning Vale.

With extensive experience in supervising GP registrars, Lewis combines clinical expertise with a passion for sustainable healthcare and innovative medical education. He holds leadership roles, including with the North Metropolitan Health Service board, and contributes to research on chronic disease management and training models in general practice.

Lewis is known for his practical and engaging teaching style. In this session, he shares strategies for managing registrars in difficulty, supporting high performers, and balancing clinical and teaching commitments, drawing on his years of experience as a supervisor and mentor.

Karen Magraith graduated from Flinders University and worked in Darwin and Adelaide before moving to Hobart. Karen has a longstanding interest in menopause and is a Past President of the Australasian Menopause Society. She has written or contributed to a number of peer reviewed publications and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Tasmania.

Biography

Dr. Stephen Martin is a GP, early career researcher and medical educator in the Academic Unit of General Practice at the Australian National University. He is an investigator in an RACGP Education Research Grant looking at the educational needs of GPs to deliver safe and effective Telehealth. He helps to lead GP teaching for medical students at ANU and works as an ECT visitor and supervisor for the RACGP.

Biography

Dr Sasha Mathias is an Extended Skills GP Registrar currently working in RPA Virtual Hospital and community general practice.

She has previously worked in Emergency Medicine and enjoys the breadth and intersection of both disciplines in urgent care settings, and the challenges of complex and chronic care.

Dr Sasha is passionate about virtual care, and particularly it's use and development in the community setting.

In her current roles she has been able to observe the value of integration between community and inpatient care, and the function that virtual care holds in this space.

Biography

A/Prof McGrail is a mid-career researcher at the University of Queensland’s Rural Clinical School. He trained as a statistician and has worked in rural health units most of his academic career. McGrail is globally recognised for his research of medical workforce training and distributional outcomes, which directly impacts healthcare access for rural populations. He was recently lead CI on an RACGP-funded Education Research Grant.

Biography

Lydia is a neurodivergent clinical psychologist is passionate about neurodiversity affirming practice, particularly autism assessment and strategies. She loves to help Autistic people to find joy, connection, work and study opportunities through their passions. She has been working with Autistic clients since 1998, conducting autism assessments from 2002, and running autism workshops from 2009. Lydia provides clinical supervision and training for health professionals around autism and neurodiversity affirming practice. She developed the Supporting Autistic Students online course for teachers, and the Neurodiversity Affirming Clinician online membership hub to help clinicians consider how they can ensure that their practice is neurodiversity affirming. She presents at conferences and offers customised training for health services, schools and disability organisations.

Hamish Meldrum

Biography

Dr Meldrum is a New Zealand medical graduate with extensive experience across General Practice, Emergency Medicine and Obstetrics. He worked in the NSW Outback town of Bourke for five years as a GP Obstetrician, founding Ochre Health there with Dr Ross Lamplugh in 2002, before moving to Sydney in 2006. Hamish was Ochre’s Director of Medical Services until 2020, responsible for leading clinical governance, quality improvement and the company’s patient health outcomes program. In addition to his current board role, he is involved in providing clinical support for doctors across the Group and he chairs the Ochre Health Innovation Committee, focusing on developing and implementing innovations that improve patient care and practice operations as well as advancing the company’s market leadership in general practice. Dr Meldrum is a regular author, commentator and conference presenter on issues affecting the primary care sector, and he is an examiner for the RACGP Fellowship examination program.

Helen Milroy

Biography

Helen Milroy is a Palyku woman whose homelands are in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Helen is Australia’s first Indigenous doctor and child psychiatrist. Currently Helen is the Stan Perron Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Perth Children’s Hospital and University of Western Australia and Honorary Research at the Telethon Kids Institute. Helen is the Chair of the Gayaa Dhuwi Proud Spirit Australia organisation and a board member of Beyond Blue.
In 2019 she was appointed the AFL’s first Indigenous Commissioner. In 2020, Helen was the joint winner of the Australian Mental Health Prize and named the WA Australian of the Year for 2021. Helen was formerly a Commissioner with the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse for 5 years as well as with the National Mental Health Commission.
Helen is also an artist and published author and illustrator of children’s books and has been shortlisted for several children’s literature awards.

Biography

Dr Talila Milroy is a Yindjibarndi and Palyku General Practitioner and researcher from Western Australia. She has research interests in Aboriginal health and women’s and children’s health. She completed a RACGP Academic Post in 2020 which explored experiences of racism for Indigenous GP trainees. Her previous research has included studies on pelvic floor dysfunction for Aboriginal women and Aboriginal people’s stolen wages. Dr Milroy currently works clinically at South Coastal Health & Community Services and Babbingur Mia, a multidisciplinary primary care clinic for Aboriginal women and families, and contributes to general practice teaching at UWA Medical School.
