Biography

Dr Alireza Ahmadvand is an Associate Professor in Primary Care at Griffith University and a Senior Medical Officer at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane. He has extensive experience as a general practitioner across Australia and has contributed significantly to digital health in primary care. Dr Ahmadvand's research interests include generative AI, mHealth, health informatics, and improving patient care through technology. He has published over 60 original research articles and co-authored multiple book chapters. His work has been recognised through various awards. Dr Ahmadvand is passionate about advancing the integration of technology in clinical practice and education, aiming to enhance healthcare delivery and outcomes.

A/Prof Diane Arnold-Reed is a researcher in general practice and teaches medical students within the Medical Research and Innovation Domain at the School of Medicine, University of Notre Dame (Fremantle). She is currently also the Chair of the WA General Practice Based Research Network – a cross collaboration between Universites, Institutions and GPs interested in furthering general practice research. She has over 30 years research experience having worked in hospital, population health and community research fields and currently in general practice research.

Biography

Dr Awyong is a Regional Medical Educator, GP supervisor and GP preceptor for Notre Dame medical students.

She completed her medical degree at the University of Western Australia in 2006 and enjoyed gaining hospital experience in multiple medical specialties. She also undertook a role as a Medical Education Registrar for 12 months within the hospital system and delivered medical education to junior medical officers and medical students.

She completed her General Practice training, attained fellowship with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RACGP) in 2017 and has continued to pursue her special interest in Medical Education.

She joined the RACGP this year as a Regional Medical Educator with the portfolio of Supervisor Professional Development and is dedicated to supporting GP supervisors in cultivating a positive training environment for the future of General Practice.

Biography

Dr Mariam Bahemia is a Perth based GP with a broad range of clinical and teaching experience.
After qualifying from the University of Western Australia, she obtained the FRACGP and the Diploma of Child Health, and has worked as a GP in Perth, London and Dublin.
Mariam was Co-Deputy chair of the RACGP in WA ( 2022-2024), Chair of the Education Committee RACGP WA ( 2018-2024), Chair of the WhyGp Committee ( 2022-2024) and was a clinical tutor at the UWA School of Medicine ( 2009-2018). Mariam is the current President of the Children of Mauritius Medical and Surgical Support Association.
Mariam is an advocate for Doctor’s health and wellbeing, and has a strong history of proactive collegial engagement in education.

Biography

Dr Andrew Baird is a General Practitioner with 30 years’ experience in rural and metropolitan general practice. Andrew has been with Avant since 2021. He is a Medical Adviser and Claims Manager. He has worked as a medical educator on the GP training program, and as a clinical tutor at Finders University and University of Melbourne. Andrew’s medical and GP training were in Scotland. He also did training in GP Anaesthetics and GP Obstetrics.

Biography

Dr Laura Beaton is a general practitioner, medical educator and early career academic based in Melbourne.

Laura is an active member of the RACGP Climate and Environmental Medicine Special Interest Group as well as volunteer with Doctors for the Environment Australia (DEA). Laura is part of the founding collaboration that co-developed a “planetary health-organ system map” resource for graduate medical education. This project has expanded nationally since 2017 and supported planetary health integration into all levels of medical training curricula.

Laura has a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education, teaches at Melbourne Medical School, supervises medical students and GP registrars and is involved in developing and delivering professional development to fellow GPs. She designed and delivered part of a new award-winning MD subject in 2023 and 2024 focusing on our health system’s transitions of care. Laura was a co-opted committee member for the RACGP Expert Committee Practice Technology and Management 2022-2024.

Biography

Dr Marina Berbic has undergone specialist training in Genetic Pathology at Prince of Wales Hospital and Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology. She attained Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2020 and joined DHM in 2021. In addition to a Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery, she holds a Bachelor of Medical Science, a Masters in Reproductive Health and Human Genetics and a PhD in Reproductive Medicine. Dr Berbic is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the School of Women’s and Children’s Health at the University of New South Wales and was a member of the Mackenzie’s Mission (Reproductive Genetic Carrier Screening) Variant Review Committee.



She has a particular interest in reproductive genomics and is passionate about integrating sequencing technologies in clinical decision-making and personalised patient care.

Dr Owen Bradfield is the Chief Medical Officer of the Medical Indemnity Protection Society. A doctor and health lawyer, he has 15 years’ experience in medical indemnity insurance. He has advised and represented doctors in a range of medico-legal disputes, including civil claims, regulatory complaints, employment disputes, Coronial inquests and Medicare investigations. Owen is also a health law researcher at the University of Melbourne, where his research into the intersection between doctors’ health and legal claims has been internationally recognised with a 2020 Fulbright Scholarship. He also sits on the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare Ethics Committee.

Biography

Dr Colleen Bradford is the Regional Director of Training for WA for the RACGP. Prior to transition she worked as the Director of Training for WAGPET. She is a life member of the RACGP and the 2019 recipient of the Sam Bada medical education award WA. Colleen has been working in medical education for 30 years and has practiced in the Solomon Islands, Western Sahara and East Timor. Following her graduation from UWA she worked for the ADF as a military medical officer rising to the rank of Colonel. Her general practice experience includes practicing in rural NSW and the ACT before returning to WA in 2006. Currently she is practising in Mt Lawley.

Dr Jenny Brockis MB ChB (Brist) FASLM

As a child, Jenny’s favourite story was Rudyard Kipling’s “How the Elephant Got His Trunk.”
Just like the elephant, she is insatiably curious about the what and why of everything, especially why we think and behave the way we do. She understands that while intentions can be good, implementing sustainable and enduring behavioural change can be tricky.

A former GP who established her own highly successful group medical practice in Perth, West Australia, Jenny is a Board-Certified Lifestyle Medicine Physician and works as an independent workplace health and wellbeing consultant. She obtained her Fellowship in Lifestyle Medicine in 2019 and is a non-executive director on the ASLM Board.

She is an award-winning speaker and best-selling author of five books including “The Natural Advantage” and remains curious to know, “What keeps you well and working at your best?”
