Biography

Dr Amireh Fakhouri is a dedicated Academic Registrar in her final year of RACGP General Practice training, with a passion for addressing health inequities.

Beyond her clinical work, she collaborates with the Department of Health and Age Care in Canberra, focusing on policy reform within the Primary Care Access Branch.

Her expertise in health policy is complemented by her research endeavors, including the publication of a book titled " Health Inequity Experienced by Australian Paediatric Patients".

Dr Fakhouri's commitment to serving marginalized communities extends to her work at Utopia Refugee Clinic, where she provides healthcare to refugees and asylum seekers in Melbourne West. Alongside her professional endeavors, Dr. Fakhouri is heavily involved in community work, leveraging her skills and knowledge to make a positive impact.

As a proud individual of Palestinian background, she brings a unique perspective to her work and advocacy efforts. Despite her demanding professional roles, she finds balance as a devoted mother of two young children. Dr Fakhouri's approachable nature and willingness to engage in meaningful conversations reflect her compassionate and multifaceted approach to life and work.

Darran Foo

Biography

Darran is a GP by trade, but in the true spirit of generalism, he wears many hats beyond his clinical role. As a medical director, advisor, researcher, and educator, he brings a multifaceted perspective to the healthcare landscape. Passionate about digital health within primary care, Darran is particularly focused on emerging technologies and novel service delivery methods.

Currently, Darran serves as Medical Director at Healthdirect Australia, where he leads the clinical governance of its virtual GP services. He is also the deputy chair of the RACGP Digital Health and Innovation Specific Interest Group, while maintaining his clinical practice in Sydney.

Furthering his commitment to advancing healthcare, Darran is pursuing a PhD at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI). His research centers on emerging models of primary health care service delivery, with a current focus on virtual services and the impact of direct-to-consumer telehealth on traditional primary care systems.

Darran's combination of clinical practice, leadership roles, and research into emerging healthcare models gives him a well-rounded perspective on the evolving landscape of medical technology and service delivery. This diverse experience allows him to contribute meaningfully to the ongoing advancements in healthcare, particularly in the rapidly changing world of digital health and primary care.

Biography

Oliver Frank MBBS PhD FRACGP FAIDH is a specialist general practitioner at Oakden Medical Centre at Hillcrest in the inner north eastern suburbs of Adelaide, and a University Senior Research Fellow in the Discipline of General Practice at the University of Adelaide.
Dr. Frank’s interests are in prevention, quality care, clinical informatics and health services. He serves on local, State and national committees in these areas, including the Adelaide GP Council, the RACGP Expert Committee - Practice Technology and Management, the CSIRO Sparked FHIR Accelerator and the Services Australia Stakeholder Consultative Group.
With Australians under 60 years making an average of four visits and Australians over 60 years making an average of eight visits to general practice annually, Dr. Frank has a particular interest in maximising the value of these visits through automated opportunistic reminders to patients and to GPs about care that is indicated and due for the patient.

Biography

Dr Jacquie Garton-Smith (MBBS 1991, FRACGP 1996) is passionate about improving health care, especially as people move between primary and acute care.

Jacquie is the Royal Perth Bentley Group Hospital Liaison GP, an expanded role from one she first started in 1997, and is an active HLGPs WA group member.

Since 2018, she has also worked as the WA Health Networks’ Clinical Lead for Primary Care Integration, following eight years as a Cardiovascular Health Network Clinical co-Lead.

She’s taken a leading role in successful electronic GP communication initiatives, integrated chronic disease programs, and facilitating primary care integration in research, and regularly teaches hospital staff about GP communication.

Jacquie spent over 20 years working as a vocationally registered GP with special interests in chronic disease management, women’s health and mental health.

She also promotes the health benefits of creativity/arts, writes fiction and is a keen gardener.

Biography

With a background in clinical neuropsychology and implementation science, Dr Kali Godbee focuses on supporting general practitioners and practice nurses to implement research evidence for preventive care, including addressing treatable traits for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and addressing risk factors for dementia. She is Project Manager for the HAPPI MIND Trial (the Holistic Approach in Primary care for Preventing Memory Impairment and Dementia), which aims to evaluate the effectiveness of two different interventions for assessing dementia risk and reducing dementia risk factors in middle-aged adults in the primary care setting.

Dr. Gundru currently works as a GP with a special interest in Gastroenterology at Gold Coast University Hospital, alongside her role as a medical educator with the RACGP.
