Mark Butler

Biography

Mark served as Minister for Ageing and Australia’s first Minister for Mental Health in the Gillard Government. He has also held the ministries of Housing, Homelessness, Social Inclusion, Climate Change, Water and the Environment.

Before Mark was elected to parliament, he worked for some of the most disadvantaged people in the community as an official with the United Workers Union (then United Voice) for over 15 years, including 11 years as State Secretary.

In 2003 he was awarded the Centenary Medal for services to trade unionism.

He has long been a champion for society’s most vulnerable, and was a member of the South Australian Social Inclusion Board during its major review of the South Australian mental health system.

In 2013 Mark was awarded the Alzheimer’s Disease International Award for Outstanding Global Contribution to the Fight Against Dementia.

Mark served as President of the South Australian Branch of the ALP in 1997 to 1998 and as a member of the ALP National Executive from 2000 to 2014. He served as Labor’s National President from 2015 to 2018.

Mark is the author of Advanced Australia – The Politics of Ageing, published in 2015; and Climate Wars, published in 2017.

Mark holds a First Class Honours Law degree, an Arts degree and a Masters degree in International Relations.

Biography

Dr Aaron Chambers has worked in general practice since 2006. He is passionate about family practice, including paediatrics and obstetric care. Dr Chambers is the GP Liaison Officer for Children's Health Queensland, based at Queensland Children's Hospital. In private practice, he consults regularly, and is a healthcare system innovator. Dr Chambers founded Growlife Medical Group, and is a co-founder of Allergy First, Cub Care Paediatric Urgent Care and Telehealth Platform GPConsults.

Biography

MBChB FRCPA
Professor Simon Clark graduated from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He trained at Wellington Hospital and at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Prof. Clark completed a Fellowship of Dermatopathology at the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia. He has worked in public and private pathology and has lectured at the University of Melbourne and the University of Queensland. Prof. Clark is involved in general practitioner education in skin cancer medicine. He presently runs the pathology component of the postgraduate certificate courses in skin cancer medicine at the University of Queensland and also lectures in the Masters of Medicine course.

In 2016, he was appointed visiting professor in dermatology at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Prof. Clark joined Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology In 2011.

Biography

Dr Monika Coha is an Academic Registrar working clinically in Melbourne, and working in medical education and education research at Monash University. She is passionate about medical education and how we as General Practitioners can support the wellbeing of students, while also preparing them for entering the workforce. Her current research area explores how we teach sensitive topics in the medical school curriculum and how we can improve as health professional educators in this space. She also has a special interest in Women's Health in her clinical work and holds a RANZCOG Certificate of Women's Health.

Biography

Dr Marjorie Cross has been a general practitioner in Bungendore NSW for more than 30 years. She is a Supervisor and Senior Medical Educator with RACGP, with an interest in supervisor education. She is a Rural Clinical teacher with ANU. She is a member of the Organizational Equity Committee of WONCA. She received the Order of Australia for services to rural health and particularly for services to rural women. She is a passionate advocate for the prevention of male violence against women and for involving men in the conversations that will lead to the prevention of violence. Other memberships include MAPW, DEA, AFMW and CWA. She is a Director of Bungendore Common parkrun. She serves on the call roster for Drs4Drs ACT, and on committees of PSR

Biography

Dr Gary Deed is a general practitioner with a passionate interest in promoting quality patient care of diabetes and obesity in general practice through education, development of resources including guidelines, policy development, research and strategic collaboration. He is the Chair of the Diabetes Specific interest network for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). He is the editor for the General Practice management of type 2 diabetes guideline for the RACGP and remains a member of the ADS Clinical Guidelines/Standards Advisory Committee . He is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow of Monash University and helps co-ordinates the NHMRC funded ‘STAREE’ Statins in Reducing Events in the Elderly trial - http://www.staree.org.au/ . He has published peer reviewed journal articles in diabetes and is an editor for Diabetes Therapy and adviser/editor for Endocrinology Today

Antonio Di Dio

Biography

Associate Professor Antonio Di Dio grew up in rural areas of Italy and Australia before attending Sydney University. He has been a general practitioner for 30 years and practises in Canberra. His passions include medicine, teaching, regulation, leadership, practitioner wellbeing, helping patients and their doctors, and supporting the vulnerable in our community. He was AMA ACT President from 2018-2021 and the Chair of the International Assessment Panel under Medevac Legislation for refugees in 2019. For 25 years he has served as a volunteer for distressed doctors and currently is the Deputy Chair of the National Drs4Drs Board. Antonio has been involved in regulation, including working with representative bodies, Ahpra, the Medical Council of NSW, the Australian Medical Council and PSR for over 20 years.

Biography

Dr Chris Dickie is an Academic Post Registrar at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra. Graduating from the University of St Andrews and the University of Glasgow in Scotland, he moved to Australia in 2018 after his prevocational years and started GP training in 2022.

His research in his Academic Post has focussed on GP leaders in supraclinical advocacy positions to understand their journeys and consider how we can create pathways for other GPs interested in advocacy roles.

Dr Dickie is a board director of General Practice Registrars Australia (GPRA), is the NSW representative on the RACGP GPs in Training Faculty Council and through this has a position on the RACGP NSW/ACT State Faculty Council.

Jon Emery

Biography

Jon is the current Herman Professor of Primary Care Cancer Research. He is one of the world’s most highly cited researchers in his discipline. His ground-breaking research on family history risk assessment in primary care contributed to NIH, NICE and RACGP guidelines and recommendations about current practice and future research. He led the development of a national education resource on genetics in family medicine in Australia and was invited to lead its revision by the RACGP (Genomics in General Practice), published in 2018. He has played a key role in the development of national and international guidelines on cancer risk assessment and screening (NICE, NHMRC, RACGP, NBOCC, Cancer Council), including the 2017 update of Australian colorectal cancer guidelines.
