Urgent care hunger games: what to do when demand goes through the roof.

2:00 PM - 3:35 PM

Summary

Out-of-hours or urgent care is an essential component of healthcare systems, providing prompt medical attention to patients with all types of medical and non-medical problems. This workshop aims to enhance the skills of family doctors in managing urgent care situations effectively, particularly during periods of high influx of patients and limited resources.
The workshop utilises a gamified approach to learning, involving the use of games and techniques to enhance engagement and motivation among participants. This approach promotes an immersive and interactive learning experience, using a unique board and card game format, as well as competition between participants.

Participants will work in groups to promote teamwork and collaboration. This approach aims to provide a realistic simulation of the teamwork required in managing acute care situations, especially during periods of high patient volume. The groups will be composed of participants with diverse backgrounds and experiences to encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration and learning.
The workshop will cover several topics, including the identification and triaging of urgent care patients, effective communication and coordination among team members, and the implementation of evidence-based practice in resource and personnel-limited settings. The workshop also emphasises the importance of leadership and decision-making in managing these situations.
This innovative workshop will provide a unique and engaging approach to learning about primary care emergencies, urgent care systems and teamwork. Our approach offers practical simulation of real-world scenarios and encourages collaboration and knowledge-sharing among participants as well as clear feedback to facilitate learning. Participants will be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage these situations effectively, and they will have a feedback opportunity to understand their own limits and those of the system in times of peak demand.

At the end of our presentation attendees will have clear ideas over
