For most GPs, Medicare billing is a cornerstone of practice. At the PSR we manage a peer review system to ensure appropriate Medicare billing occurs, for the benefit of patients, the Commonwealth, and everyone.
In recent years we have strived to engage more with Australian health practitioners to communicate what we do and what we do not do, as part of our vision to maximise fairness, transparency and contribute to a well-run Australian health care system.
We have also strived to improve communications with practitioners under review, and ensure as much as possible their privacy, dignity and well-being are respected at every stage of the process. We have worked together with other health regulators such as Medicare Compliance section and AHPRA to ensure this communication occurs as much as possible, and the health of practitioners under review is a high and consistent priority.
PSR has a large panel of experienced representatives from almost every craft group, from many professions. We strive to reflect and understand modern practice through our many panel members ( the largest group being GPs) and engagement with professional bodies. Our relationship with general practice is strong, including RACGP. We are keen to communicate regularly with the profession to ensure that the majority of practitioners who practice highly ethical and appropriate medicine, are informed and aware of what to understand about our processes and minimise unnecessary stressors in an already challenging career.
