Biography

Professor Pond is a clinical professor at the Wicking Dementia Research and Training Institute, University of Tasmania. She has a long history of involvement in aged care, as a clinician, researcher and policy advisor. This includes contribution to a number of palliative care projects. She is also currently a GP in active clinical practice.

Targeting multiple dementia risk factors using a nurse-led, mHealth-assisted intervention: lessons learned

Biography

With a background in clinical neuropsychology and implementation science, Dr Kali Godbee focuses on supporting general practitioners and practice nurses to implement research evidence for preventive care, including addressing treatable traits for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and addressing risk factors for dementia. She is Project Manager for the HAPPI MIND Trial (the Holistic Approach in Primary care for Preventing Memory Impairment and Dementia), which aims to evaluate the effectiveness of two different interventions for assessing dementia risk and reducing dementia risk factors in middle-aged adults in the primary care setting.

Hearing loss and cognitive decline/dementia: Longitudinal effects of hearing interventions on cognition

Biography

Dr Julia Sarant is a Professor in Audiology in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at The University of Melbourne. She has 30+ years of experience in hearing loss related research and leads the Hearing Loss and Cognition Program in the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology. Julia’s research program includes work on: • whether hearing intervention use can delay cognitive decline/dementia • medical comorbidities and markers/predictors of hearing loss • barriers to GP referral for hearing care and hearing aid uptake and use • barriers to hearing aid take-up and use • developing behavioural interventions to address these barriers • health economics evaluations of the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of interventions
