Dr Amireh Fakhouri is a dedicated Academic Registrar in her final year of RACGP General Practice training, with a passion for addressing health inequities.
Beyond her clinical work, she collaborates with the Department of Health and Age Care in Canberra, focusing on policy reform within the Primary Care Access Branch.
Her expertise in health policy is complemented by her research endeavors, including the publication of a book titled " Health Inequity Experienced by Australian Paediatric Patients".
Dr Fakhouri's commitment to serving marginalized communities extends to her work at Utopia Refugee Clinic, where she provides healthcare to refugees and asylum seekers in Melbourne West. Alongside her professional endeavors, Dr. Fakhouri is heavily involved in community work, leveraging her skills and knowledge to make a positive impact.
As a proud individual of Palestinian background, she brings a unique perspective to her work and advocacy efforts. Despite her demanding professional roles, she finds balance as a devoted mother of two young children. Dr Fakhouri's approachable nature and willingness to engage in meaningful conversations reflect her compassionate and multifaceted approach to life and work.

Crazy little thing called opioid use disorder, or is it opioid dependence?

A GP and Addiction Medicine Specialist, Dr Hester Wilson, is the chair of the RACGP Addiction Special Interest Group. She is the Chief Addiction Specialist for NSW, the Clinical Director for Murrumbidgee Drug and Alcohol Service for Murrumbidgee Local Health District, and a GP in private practice. She has long championed the issues GPs face when providing care to people experiencing AOD harm. She is keen to support access to care for people with complex needs and multimorbidity, as well as person-centred care and quality prescribing. She is currently undertaking a part-time PhD focused on GPs’ experience of patients with chronic pain and prescription opioid use disorder.
