Come along to this session to hear about the changes and how you can incorporate them into your everyday practice with tools and solutions from your college.

Biography

Dr Lara Roeske is a GP, Chair RACGP National Faculty of Specific Interests, member of the Commonwealth's Self Collection Expert Advisory Group (SCEAG), member of The Renewal Steering Committee Working Party-National Cervical Screening Guidelines and a member of the RACGP Post-Vocational Education Committee.

Biography

Professor David Wilkinson is National Clinical Lead – Continuing Professional Development, providing clinical and medical leadership to the RACGP CPD Program. He is a GP in active clinical practice, with a specific interest in skin and skin cancer. Previously David was Deputy Vice Chancellor at Macquarie University and Dean of Medicine at The University of Queensland. Prior to that David trained in medicine in the UK and worked in Africa for a decade.

Sleep Health Primary Care Resources: evidence-based information on OSA and Insomnia

Session summary

Obstructive sleep apnoea and insomnia commonly present in primary care and GPs and other members of the practice team have a key role to play in reducing their impact on physical and mental health. The resources provide evidence-based information to assist in the assessment and management of adult patients with obstructive sleep apnoea and chronic insomnia / insomnia disorder. The resources have been developed based on research evidence and reviewed by a multidisciplinary team with expertise in respiratory and sleep medicine, primary care, psychology, and pharmacy. The resources have been endorsed by the Australasian Sleep Association and approved as a RACGP Accepted Clinical Resource.

1. Understand the content and how to use of the Sleep Health Primary Care Resources
2. Knowledge of how the resources guide assessment and management of OSA and insomnia
3. Awareness of how to quickly access assessment questionnaires.

Biography

Nick is a practicing GP and a leader in primary care research on prevention and management of chronic illness, with a focus on respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. He has been involved in development of a range of clinical practice guidelines. Currently he is Chair, Expert Advisory Group RACGP smoking cessation guidelines, Chair, National Asthma Council Australian Asthma Handbook Guidelines Committee, and a member of the COPD-X Evaluation Committee, Lung Foundation Australia. Nick is also a member of the executive committee for the next edition of the RACGP Guidelines for Preventive Activities in General Practice. Other recent roles are Member Atrial Fibrillation Guidelines Working Group, and Member, National Blood Pressure and Vascular Diseases Advisory Committee, Heart Foundation.

Sleep Health Primary Care Resources: evidence-based information on OSA and Insomnia

Biography

Dr Alexander Sweetman is Program Manager of a primary care sleep disorders education program at the Australasian Sleep Association. He has expertise in insomnia, sleep apnoea, and primary care implementation. This program aims to increase GP access and use of evidence-based sleep disorder information, assessment tools, treatment and referral pathways.
