- RACGP Plus - Jon Baines tours
Details
Jon Baines will be talking with Dr Desirée Bergmann a GP who travelled on an RACGP study tour in 2022 that visited Alice Springs and Darwin and travelled between the two on the Ghan, which is being repeated in 2023. The presentation will focus on the medical visits on this tour and what the GP participants learnt from the visits. These visits include: a talk on the work of a paramedic, a background on primary care and the work of a GP in Alice Springs alongside visits to the Royal Flying Doctors and Purple House. The talk will examine how study tours provide an insight into a destination, its healthcare and people. The talk will also provide information on the forthcoming study tour medical tours to Argentina and Brazil in March and a repeat of the Ghan tour. Jon Baines will discuss how study tours tours are created and talk on some of his other tours ranging from Palliative Care in India to Midwifery in Japan to a tour on the historical legacies of plagues, across Europe.

10:05 AM - 10:25 AMBiography
Following a career in publishing Jon Baines started Jon Baines Tours in 2006 in London. Initially the company focussed on creating and running health care study tours but over time tours examining theology, botany and natural history were created. Jon moved with his family to Melbourne in 2010 and opened an office in the city. All tours are led by tour leaders and many Australian tour leaders have led tours to destinations including Greece, Turkey, Spain, Morocco, China and India etc. These leaders have included Professor Kerryn Phelps, Associate Professor Vicki Kotsirilos, Dr Matt Young, Dr Deborah Mills and Professor John Pearn. Many tours are run with associations and medical colleges including the RACGP. Jon now runs over 40 specialist tours a year to a rage of professions and special interests.
