Session summary

This session aims to demystify the role of triple therapy in moderate to severe asthma and offer practical considerations for treating this patient cohort.

Learning outcomes

1. To understand the role of LAMA in moderate to severe asthma
2. To evaluate the current clinical evidence and understand the practical considerations for when to step up to triple therapy
3. To be able to differentiate between the available fixed-dose triple therapy combinations, including indication, PBS criteria and device selection

Biography

Dr Martin Macdonald is a Respiratory and Sleep Physician with a subspecialty interest in asthma and COPD. His main practice is at Monash Medical Centre where he is a clinical lead in the severe asthma service. His PhD investigated clinical phenotyping of COPD exacerbations and the overlap between COPD and cardiac disease. He has published extensively in COPD and asthma and is a Deputy Editor of the Asia-Pacific respiratory journal Respirology. In addition he holds an appointment as a Respiratory physician with Eastern Health and is now seeing private patients in Ashburton.
