Rapid Fire 1: NPS is Back?!? MedicineInsight & Free, Trusted QI Tools for Your Practice
NPS MedicineWise may be gone, but some of its most important legacies lives on. The NPS MedicineInsight program has transitioned to the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC).
This session introduces practice owners to free, independent ACSQHC resources — and, through the theme of COPD, shows how the MedicineInsight program uses practice data to improve care for your practice patients, gives you a CPD boost, and connects to other Commission resources such as the Clinical Care Standards, the Atlas of Healthcare Variation, and Practice Reflections.
Rapid Fire 2: Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program - first 6 months – what does it tell us?
As part of the 2025-26 Budget, the Australian Government announced a $7.9 billion investment to encourage GPs and practices to bulk bill more patients. This investment recognises the central role that general practice plays within Australia’s healthcare system and the importance of ensuring all patients can access the primary care they need.
On 1 November 2025, the eligibility for bulk billing incentives was expanded to all Medicare-eligible patients and the Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program (BBPIP) was introduced. Since 1 November 2025, over 3,400 practices have registered for BBPIP, including almost 1,300 that have transitioned from a mixed billing model. Bulk billing rates rose to 81.4% between November 2025 and January 2026, up 4.3 percentage points compared to the same period 12 months prior. This is the largest year on year quarterly jump in bulk billing in 20 years (outside of the COVID pandemic). The first round of quarterly BBPIP payments commenced on 21 January 2026, with $61.37 million disbursed to eligible registered practices as of 3 February 2026.
This presentation will provide an overview of BBPIP to date and provide information for practice owners and managers considering registering for the program.
