Associate Professor Bernard Shiu is a General Practitioner, practice owner, and health system leader with extensive experience in building high-performing primary care organisations. He is the Clinical Director and owner of Banksia Medical Centre, a multi-site practice in Victoria, Australia, recognised for innovation in integrated care delivery, workforce development, and sustainable practice operations. Banksia Medical Centre was awarded National GP Clinic of the year in 2023.
With a strong background in clinical governance, service design, and business strategy, Associate Professor Shiu has led the development of multidisciplinary models of care, specialist clinics, and data-driven practice systems that improve patient outcomes while strengthening financial and operational performance. His work focuses on scalable practice models, workforce optimisation, digital health integration, and long-term sustainability in primary care.
Bernard is a director of WestVic PHN, a medical educator and RACGP supervisor, and an Associate Professor involved in training the next generation of clinicians. He also advises on primary care system development, medical education, and healthcare innovation across Australia and internationally.
At this conference, Associate Professor Shiu will share practical frameworks and real-world strategies for building resilient teams, optimising practice performance, and sustaining high-quality care in an evolving healthcare environment.
