He and his business partner Dr Kim Isaac (pHD) set up Kotara Family Practice in Newcastle in July 2009. The practice grew and relocated to larger premises in 2016. They sold Kotara Family Practice to Ochre Health in 2025. They learned a lot about general practice, Medicare, business leadership and team building along the way. 11:20 - 12:05
Dr Brenda has worked as a GP in regional WA for 28 years so far. Like many in the regions she is an IMG. Her ownership journey started in 2008 with a full multidisciplinary team focused on prevention in Bunbury. Since then, the practice group has grown consistently; she has scaled her group to 30 practice sites in WA so far, with the first Victorian practice joining the team in March 2026. Plenty of challenges arose along the way, she's happy to share the lessons gained from them.
