Details

Running a successful medical practice today requires more than clinical excellence — it demands strategic foresight, financial acumen and effective business planning. This presentation will equip GP practice owners with practical, evidence-based tools to strengthen their business performance, improve profitability and build long-term value.
Drawing on benchmark data and insights from Australian medical practices, participants will learn how to effectively work on their practice, not just in it. The session will introduce five key performance indicators (KPIs) essential to monitoring and improving the health of a general practice: growth, financial performance, staff engagement, operating efficiency and return on investment of new systems and processes.
Using real-world examples, attendees will explore how to interpret and act on these metrics — from tracking patient growth and managing costs, to improving consulting room utilisation, staff productivity, and patient satisfaction. Each element will be supported by comparative industry data and practical tools that GPs can apply immediately within their practice.
The session will then shift focus to strategic planning, providing a step-by-step approach for identifying and prioritising initiatives to drive growth, improve cash flow and enhance equity value. Topics will include leveraging technology, building patient loyalty, staff development, and reducing dependence on key personnel.
By the end of the session, participants will gain a structured framework for strategic decision-making — empowering them to position their practice for sustainable success in a changing healthcare environment.
This session delivers innovation and new learning aligned with RACGP’s focus on evidence-based practice management, providing tangible, hands-on insights that GPs can take back to their own clinics.
