Presented by Dr. Prakash Appanna and Dr. Mario Zotti - The spinal session will cover the differential diagnosis of spinal problems (particularly low back pain), relevant workup for spinal conditions as well as conservative and operative treatments in common spinal conditions. The Hip and Knee sessions will focus on diagnosis of acute knee injuries and novel treatment of the chronic knee as well as a brief differential diagnosis of hip problems.

Abstract

Biography

Dr Prakash Appanna is a General Practitioner based on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Originally from South Africa, he completed his Medical Training at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal before migrating to New Zealand in 1989 and relocating to Australia in 2013. Dr Appanna has a special interest in Sports Medicine and currently operates a clinic in Robina on the Gold Coast. Dr Appanna holds fellowships with both the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. He has completed Advanced training in Sports Medicine at the University of Auckland. Dr Appanna's experience includes both national and international level services as a Team Doctor to Football teams in New Zealand, the highlight being as Team Physician at a FIFA World Cup. Dr Appanna also holds an International level Football Coaching Licence. Dr Appanna is actively involved with the training of Registrars for GPTQ as well as Medical Students for both Bond and Griffith Universities.

Dr Mario Zotti is a Gold Coast based orthopaedic surgeon suspecialising in spinal surgery and an honorary adjunct assistant professor at Bond University. After completing medical school in Melbourne where he won the prize for Medicine/Surgery at Monash University, Dr Zotti went on to complete specialist orthopaedic training in South Australia including 2 years of involvement in Adult and Paediatric spinal units through the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Women’s and Children’s hospital. Having been awarded a Master of Surgery in Orthopedics, published several book chapters and having won several awards for his research, Dr Zotti regularly presents at national and international meetings as well as being affiliated with several organisations and scientific journals dedicated to spinal problems and their treatment.
