Abstract

Biography

Dr. Michael Dor, M.D, M.P.A. is an active family physician in Jerusalem. He studied Medicine at Tel Aviv University, specialised in Family Medicine in Jerusalem, and is a graduate of Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, with a Masters in Public Administration. During his work in the Israeli Health Ministry, he served as a Deputy Director of Health Management Services, in charge of hospitals and established the quality evaluation and licensing process of the system which included the introduction of the Joint Commission International to Israel. He has served as the Chief Medical Officer for the Israeli Ministry of Health and has also served as the personal physician of two Popes during papal visits to Israel. Three years ago Dr. Dor won the prestigious Presidential Award for his volunteer activities helping victims of human trafficking and the uninsured population of refugees. Currently, Dr Dor serves as the Senior Medical Advisor for the Medical Cannabis Unit in the Israeli Government and in that capacity is responsible for the regulation, licensing and approval of this product and the approval for all Israeli doctors who prescribe medical cannabis to patients. Israel is the world leader in medicinal cannabis and Dr Dor pioneered the first academic courses in medicinal cannabis and is routinely invited by governments, professional bodies and congresses around the world to advise, train and present on the effective and evidence based contribution of this medicine to the health and welfare of communities.
